Difference between a job and a career

Although, jobs and careers both are associated with earning money to support ourselves and our families but however they are not same. Here we would tell you about the difference between a job and career.

What is job?

A job is work that you do to earn money to support your basic needs. It may be part-time or full-time, and may be short-term. You may earn an hourly wage or a fixed paycheck, rather than a salary with benefits. You may need to learn certain skills related to that profession but not all occupations require a degree or advanced training.

Companies expect their workers to execute their individual jobs in exchange for payment on a regular basis and to be responsible for their duties.

What is a career?

A career is a professional long-term path which you can decide based on your passions. It is the path you embark upon to fulfill your professional goals and ambitions. To achieve those goals, you may need a certain level of education or training.

Career-pursuing people have often set salaries with incentives such as stock options, retirement plans, pensions and bonuses. They also gain benefits over and above money such as personal pride, satisfaction at work and self-worth.

How Do You Advance in Your Journey?

Think of your career path as traveling along a road or as a ladder climb. Each step of the ladder could be a job providing valuable experiences.

  • At one job, you might learn new skills.
  • At another, you might gain a new interest.

As you climb the ladder, you get closer to your goal.

How Do You Manage Your Career?

The choices you make today will have an effect on your life. All your hobbies, volunteer work and part-time employment are steps in your career path. Keep these things in mind:

  • Lifelong learning is important. You might consider short-term training opportunities or getting a college degree.
  • Balance the time you spend at work and with your personal life.
  • Develop values and a sense of purpose.
  • People naturally change over time, so review your career goals frequently.
